HAVE NOT PAID for the 2009 program yet. The July 1 version is FREE if you already purchased the 2009 program. If you have not purchased the 2009 program, you must do so to receive a registration code. CLICK HERE to purchase the 2009 program.

HAVE PAID for the 2009 program but the July 1 program is asking for Firm Name/Registration Code. If you have already paid for the 2009 version - the July 1 version is included in the price of the 2009 version so if you already have the 2009 version, the July 1 version download should run without the need for a registration code. That is because you have installed the July 1 version on a computer that does not already have the pre-July 1, 2009 version installed OR you have installed one of the programs to a location other than the default installation location. The July 1 version default installs to your C:/ drive. If you did not install the 2009 version on the C:/ drive, the July 1 version won't run without your firm name, registration code and the names of the lawyers. It looks on your computer for the 2009 version. You may have to redirect the install to the same location where you placed the 2009 version. We always ask that users not redirect the installs so these problems can be avoided. It doesn't hurt anything to install the program to your C:/ drive vs. the programs folder.

If you are installing the July 1 version on a computer for the first time, the pre-July 1 version is NOT installed on the computer, you will need a registration code. CLICK HERE to get your registration code (you must have paid for the 2009 program for this feature to work - the July 1 version is FREE to those who are registered users of Iowa Support Master 2009).

Please read the Guidelines and the information we have posted on our website to help you with this. SHORT VERSION: The court is now required to order health insurance OR cash medical support. These are "ADD-ON" items in addition to child support. They must be set out in a separate order in the ruling. A NCP will pay either health insurance or cash medical support. If NCP is low-income, he/she cannot be required to provide health insurance but will be required to pay cash medical support (it may be in a very small amount). CP may be required to provide health insurance unless he/she is also low income. CP does NOT contribute cash medical support to NCP unless you are in a shared care case. CLICK HERE for detailed notes and case examples to help you better understand how health insurance and cash medical support work.

It is paid by NCP as an add-on in the decree. If CP has the kids on state assisted health insurance, such as Hawk i, cash medical support will be assigned to the state. If not, the money goes to CP. In cases of shared care, it is possible for the parties to pay each other cash medical support. Cash medical support IS IN ADDITION TO uncovered medical expenses.

In the program, click the link "Number of children for support" - it is there.

Shared care support is calculated differently under the new guidelines. When all else fails; when logic and reason escape you, check the new Guidelines and forms. You will see in Rule 9.14(3) that various percentages are applied in shared care cases. The new guidelines are built into the program. Look on the right side screen in the program for the word "Guidelines."

It is a new program. When you download and install it, you will have the original 2009 program with the blue icon and the July 1 Revisions version with a blue icon and a red "R" on the icon. Two programs.

They are not in the program yet. The new guidelines are a major change. We are doing our best to produce a standard and accurate Form 1. As we iron out the kinks, we will add these features. Thank you for your patience.

Please, before you call, check the figures and Form 1 with the new guidelines. They are in the program. Look on the right margin of the screen for "Guidelines." If you have any trouble pulling them up, they are located in the 2009 ISM Revisions folder on your C:/ drive called "file28" - it's a pdf file. Read them before you call as your question most likely is answered there.

You should consider asking the court for a variance. The variance language has changed and judges now have much more discretion to vary from the guidelines. See Rule 9.11 of the new guidelines.

The new guidelines require some thinking on your part. It isn't just entering numbers now, you actually need to be thinking what will serve your client best. Step one, when all else fails, read the new Guidelines, the forms and look at the reasoning for the changes. Be on the lookout for a low-income NCP and a high-income CP.

Only in cases of shared custody. Read the new guidelines, there is a link to them in the right margin of Iowa Support Master.

Click on "Calculation Overrides" in the mini-screen on the left side of the program. Change the cash medical support to $0.

This is not considered as "health insurance" since it is taxpayer supported (public). Only private carrier insurance is relied on in making the calculations. You will enter "0" as the cost of health insurance. NCP will be required to pay cash medical support which will most likely be assigned to the State of Iowa.

We suggest you plan to attend the Family Law Seminar which will be held in late October, 2009. The Iowa State Bar Association holds an annual, 2-day family law seminar in Des Moines. Keep an eye on this page.
