Common Questions

We often receive calls asking for features in Iowa Support Master. There's no question, with the new guidelines and program changes, users may have difficulties finding certain features in the program. Iowa Support Master has a "Find" feature that you need to check out. It's so simple to use.

As an example to try out, let's say you decide you want to look at the "Questionnaire" that is contained within the program. You heard us talk about it, where is it? Look in the right margin of the program for the "Find" button. Click on it. Scroll down until you find "Questionnaire" then click on it. You can click "Go to location" or just double click on it and you will be looking at the document within seconds. It's that simple.

Split Custody vs. Shared Custody or .... both?

Iowa Support Master has the ability to do the calculations for you in these scenarios. Not sure where they are? Remember "Find."

What is "split custody?" It's when the parties have 2 or more children and when each parent will have custody of at least one of the children. "Shared custody" is when the parties actually share custody of the children, neither party is awarded primary care. Each parent has periods within which they have physical custody of the child.

Keep in mind that the calculations for "split" and "shared" are two different beasts. In shared custody cases, the guidelines provide for different calculations and adjustments. Check out Rule 9.14(3), Child Support Guidelines. Open the program and click on the "Guidelines" button in the right margin.

Patrick Wilson will be presenting at the Iowa Association for Justice Family Law Seminar being held in Riverside, Iowa this Friday, April 9. If you have not signed up, contact the Iowa Association for Justice by clicking here. He will also be speaking at the annual ISBA seminar in June.

Tidbits

Test ?
You know that when either party provides health insurance for the kids, cash medical support goes away. Did you know that when the custodial parent provides the health insurance, under 252E.1A(4), the court may require the NCP to contribute toward the cost? If not, click here and read about it.
