Problems checking for updates online
Solutions -
- Make sure you are online by using a different program. Try running restarting the Iowa Support Master again. Obviously by viewing this web page you are definitely online.
- If you are online, something on your computer is blocking the Iowa Support Master from looking for updates.
- First, try starting the program by right clicking the icon you normally use to start the Iowa Support Master. In the drop down list left click "Run As Administrator". If the program checks for updates, continue to start the Iowa Support Master using this method.
- If the above fails, firewalls are the first place to look. You might be using the Windows firewall or a 3rd party firewall such as Norton. Make sure the Iowa Support Master and two files within the program "2007-Iowa-Support-Master-Checking-For-Updates" and "Iowa-Support-Master-Internet-Update" are allowed to use the internet.
- Your computer may ask permission for some files each time they need to go online. If you say no one time, it then rejects the program and never asks again. Saying no is easy, figuring out how to convince your firewall to allow the programs can be difficult.
- Someone other than yourself may have disallowed the Iowa Support Master from connecting to the internet. Ask around.
- This could also be a permissions problem. You may be allowed to go online manually however some program may not be allowed do go online automatically without your click. You may want to talk to your network administrator about this.
Why is this happening?
Many computer and network environments are restrictive by default, especially when it comes to accessing the internet. Permissions need to be increased manually after installation.
If you are using Vista, you may find this operating system more restrictive than previous versions of Windows.
The Iowa Support Master needs to periodically check for important, sometimes critical updates to calculate child support correctly.
