Entering Tax Information

Press ESC or click OK to exit this screen. Click on the down arrow to enter information for each category.

DEPENDENT CHILDREN - Enter the number of dependent children. Do NOT include the filer. This means a parent with two children for tax purposes will only enter 2 dependent children. The parent is assumed as a deduction. The number of children as dependents for tax purposes will be the same for federal and state tax returns.

CHILDREN FOR EIC - Enter the number of children to be considered for Earned Income Credit if eligible.

OVER AGE 65? - Enter Yes to receive the tax credit.

BLIND? - Enter Yes to receive the tax credit.

TAX FILING STATUS - Enter the tax filing status (single, joint, head of house, separated) that applies to each parent. The appropriate tax credit will be applied.

NOTE: It is important to know that the number of children considered for child support, as tax dependents, as children considered for EIC and as qualified additional dependents may ALL differ depending on circumstances and arrangements.

Other Deductions

This section allows you to enter deductions as allowed for under the Child Support Guidelines. Press ESC or click OK to exit.

Unreimbursed medical expenses - the guidelines allow for up to $300 per year in unreimbursed medical expenses actually paid.

Enter the dollar amounts on a yearly, monthly, bi-weekly or weekly basis and the yearly total will be displayed.

Cafeteria Plans - If the employer provides or reimburses child care and that income is not taxed, enter the amount of unreimbursed child care expense here. You can enter the non-taxed reimbursement as 'OTHER INCOME' (above) being careful to include this income for EIC if appropriate.

Calculation Tax Overrides

Use caution as any entries in this section will override numbers normally calculated by the program.

Enter any amount of tax liability if different from that normally computed. Reasons for this include tax liability from other states or international income. Nontaxable income should be entered as OTHER INCOME.
(See list at left under income).

KEEP THIS INFORMATION BLANK, unless needed. If you enter 0.00 then the program will consider $0.00 as the actual liability or credit. To delete an override simply backspace or delete the information out and press ENTER.

This feature is commonly used to solve complicated tax considerations.
